What's Really Going On?

I originally called my blog "Bread and Circuses" because I suspect that modern North Americans seem to be following in the footsteps of the classical Romans in their obsession with pleasurable diversions and easy sources of satisfaction. Whereas the Romans were kept pacified with cheap bread and wine, and with circuses that featured wild animals devouring hapless slaves in their arenas, in North America we have diversions such as consumerism whereby women compulsively shop for "stuff', and men are obsessed by pro-sports on home theatres. To replace the bread, we have cheap beer and pizza!
Now, I see that the phrase "Bread and Circuses" is woefully overused so that I've changed the blog title to "What's Really Going On?" with the intent of highlighting the same stories that I suspect are underreported or ignored in North America .
